WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

80% of global cardiovascular disease burden has been estimated to occur in low and middle income countries. Technologically advanced treatments for heart disease such as open heart surgery (OHS) however remains unavailable to a third of the World's population, majority of whom reside in sub Saharan Africa (SSA). 70% of these population live below poverty level on less than $1.25 a day according to the World Bank. With absent or limited health insurance coverage across most of SSA, access to OHS is therefore very restricted as most patients are unable to pay out of pocket for these expensive procedures ranging on average from $8000 to $10000.00.

JOE NWILOH HEART FOUNDATION (JNHF) was established to help bridge and reduce this wide disparity gap to technologically advanced treatments of heart disease in sub Saharan Africa compared to the rest of the developed and developing World. JNHF’s goal is to serve as a beacon of hope to heart patients needing lifesaving surgery or other interventional treatments that they would otherwise be unable to receive due to financial constraints. JNHF also through educational programs and preventive initiatives hopes to reduce the current high burden of rheumatic heart disease in children and adolescents.
